Achilles Heel is a Glasgow-based running shoe specialist which supplies shoes, clothing and accessories for road, off-road, track and field, walking and other sports.

The company was set up in the year 2000 by marathon runner Katy Alexander, and now runs as a highly successful family business with the help of her daughter Sam and son Stephen.  It also has a thriving mail order and online division, which attracts sales from the rest of the UK and Europe.

Problem/Challenge

Achilles Heel had started to move from a manual system towards an EPOS system but had problems with their current supplier and needed additional functionality such as stock management.

Sam Alexander said: “At that time, we had progressed from a basic till to a computer till, but it was supplied and serviced by an English-based company and they were exceedingly hard to deal with. They were hard to contact and wanted to deal with things over the phone rather than on-site service.”

Achilles Heel first became aware of the Sage Business Solutions offered by Eureka Solutions through the recommendation of a technician who was working on their office systems.

Solution

Eureka Solutions implemented Sage 50 Point of Sale which consists of an EPOS till system in the shop fully integrated with Sage 50 Accounts in the back office for pricing and stock management. All sales and stock information is shared between systems, meaning no duplication of work and preventing errors caused by re-keying information.

Sam said: “The Sage system is so much better for stock control. I can now look at screen and see exactly where we are and what we need to re-order. Previously, I had to physically go through to the stock area and shelf-count. The system also creates invoices as they are required, which saves so much time.”

Selling prices can also be set up or amended in the Sage 50 back office, which then updates the till without the user having to change any settings.  This cuts data entry in half and ensures that information is consistent throughout the business.
