Sage 50 to Sage 200 Upgrade

There are several reasons why your company may have outgrown Sage 50 and require to upgrade.  These include:

Additional users required

Sage 50 is recommended for use with a maximum of 6 concurrent users. This often means that not everyone can be in the system that needs to be, which affects the efficiency of your business. Too many users running on the system at any one time will result in the system running slowly. Users may also get a “waiting to lock files” message which appears if two users are updating, or saving, to the same area in the program. Sage 200 is designed for use with around 6-50+ users, allowing for a scalable business management system which can grow with your business.

Multiple stock locations

Sage 50 allows stock items to be set up, but only one stock holding value can be recorded against each stock item. Many Sage 50 users work around this by setting up multiple stock items for each location of stock.  However by doing this there is a risk of error, miscounts and selling prices being incorrect. Sage 200 supports an unlimited amount of warehouses and can attach them against stock items, allowing for stock to be accurately managed.

Number of Transactions

Sage 50 has an upper limit of approximately 100,000 transactions.  The more transactions within Sage 50, the more performance will decrease, and the system will become slow.  With a high number of transactions, valuable data may be archived, meaning reporting and trend analysis could become impossible.  Sage 200 uses Microsoft SQL server, which is designed to handle a massive number of transactions. Most Sage 200 customers have historical data which goes back several years.

Trading in Foreign Currencies

Sage 50 has limited foreign currency functionality. If your organisation is beginning to process a large number of foreign currency transactions, Sage 200 is much better equipped to deal with these.

Batch and Serial Number Traceability

Sage 50 does not allow the recording of batch/serial numbers for products that require it. If your business requires a method of seeing that one particular item has been brought in by a supplier and sold to a specific customer, so that returns can be handled, an upgrade to Sage 200 is required.

Advanced Reporting & Trend Analysis Required

Sage 50 offers limited functionality where advanced reporting and trend analysis is required. Sage 200 Business Intelligence (BI) comes as standard with the Sage 200 Suite.  Sage 200 BI is a powerful Excel-based tool, which provides deep reporting and trend analysis.

Customisation Required

Sage 50 has limited scope for customisation. If your company has a requirement for processes specific to your company or industry, Sage 200 is the ideal solution.
